The February 6 preview of London Symphony Orchestra on MusicalCriticism.com mentions one of the most prolofic director/choreographers of our time. Certainly the greatest living American choreographer and a darling of London, New York and San Francisco, Mark Morris's identity with music is spellbinding. You say you are "uninspired" by the upcoming UK premiere of the Mark Morris Dance Group's Romeo & Juliet, On Motifs of Shakespeare, but you never mentioned why the collaboration is such a spectacular addition to the season. The orchestra will play the never-before-heard version of Prokofiev's masterful score, the way he'd originally intended to premiere it before the Stalin regime forced major changes on it. What the ballet world knows as one of the most celebrated and performed evening-length ballets is being presented with the original scenario and score for the first time to Europe in London by London's great symphony. This will be a monumentous event, one that should not be brushed aside. See www.LoveLives.net and be inspired. Yours,
A
I don't have an issue with the Morris ballet version of R and J but I do have an issue with following the ballet performances with two further performances of the piece with Gergiev in the concert hall. It would be nice to see the LSO perform a more extensive repertoire under Gergiev; instead, he's repeating rep he has been doing for years.
